BD Custom Manufacturing takes great pride in incorporating the best raw materials possible into their plastic extrusion process. By relying on PVC for some applications and Polyethylene for others, BD Custom has the ability to manufacture very specific products for each industry, product and customer request. Focusing on just two materials means greater expertise pertaining to the requirements and behaviour of the materials; and also means BD Custom Manufacturing can buy in large enough volumes to keep our customer's pricing low enough to allow them to be competitive.
PVCPVC is the abbreviation used for the Chlorinated Hydrocarbon polymer also known as Polyvinyl Chloride. PVC is a thermoplastic, which means that it softens as it is heated and hardens as it cools. It can be shaped with the application of heat, thus allowing the extrusion process to occur. A controlled cool down of the vinyl allows it to maintain the correct profile and strength. Due to the large percentage of chlorine that is present in its composition, Polyvinyl Chloride uses less petroleum than many other plastics. This helps to make PVC one of the most affordable plastics available to manufacturing, construction and a variety of other industries.
Durability is not a trade-off for reasonable pricing. PVC has a very wide range of uses and maintains its properties over a long period of time, making it weather, water, dent, stain and corrosion resistant. PVC is lightweight, has electrical insulation properties and has high strength to weight ratios. It can be as light weight and flexible as shrink wrap or it can be rigid enough to replace wood, clay, or even concrete when used in the construction industry.
A variety of plasticizers are used as an additive to make the vinyl more flexible and resilient. Other additives can be used such as biocides, lubricants, impact modifiers, fillers, and pigments for color.
POLYETHYLENEPolyethylene is an oil-based thermoplastic which is softened when heated and hardened when cooled. It can be extruded with the application of heat thus allowing it to pass through the dies to form a profile. A controlled cool down of the vinyl allows it to maintain the correct profile after being extruded.
Polyethylene (PE) is a plastic which is resistant to many different chemicals and agents. In addition to water, oil, and acetone, PE also has excellent resistance to alcohols, acids, and bases such as ammonia. High Density and Low Density Polyethylene can both be used in the extrusion process to produce parts that maintain flexibility and resilience even at low temperatures. BD Custom Manufacturing often works with Polyethylene to extrude very soft, pliable parts for a variety of applications.
APPLICATIONSBD Custom Manufacturing specializes in producing parts based on customer specifications. Some jobs, however, begin simply as ideas, and the engineers at BD Custom help transform them from concept to actual production tested components. Following, are a few of the applications for our custom extrusion products.
PVC Post CoversPVC casement slides over wood, creating a weather resistant post that is strong enough to take the punishment of climate change and is light enough to ship with limited weight carriers.
Paneling TrimMatching PVC trim for interior wall paneling. BD Custom trim molding resists stains and chipping while providing a clean finished look to any paneling or coated wallboard application.
Hot Tubs / SpasMany name brand spas and hot tubs are manufactured using custom PVC components developed and extruded at BD Custom Manufacturing.
Poly CordOften used to replace natural or synthetic braided ropes for use in upholstery and sewing applications, BD Custom's Polyethylene poly cord has strength, resilience and greater weather resistance than natural fibers.
Windows / DoorsCustom window and door manufacturers turned to BD Custom to replace high maintenance wood components with weather resistant PVC moldings and trim.
